From ideas to reality

I offer a full range of garden design services. You may wish to simply have planting ideas for your balcony pots or you may want a full redesign of your garden, including constructions and planting - I’m happy to work on any size project to make your space give you the best value. You may want to tackle the whole plot at once, or you may wish to just brighten up a dark corner - it’s entirely up to you. The phases in re-designing your garden are outlined below.

It’s difficult to lay down pricing for all the phases here as there are so many factors involved: Is it a complete re-build? Does there need to be re-contouring or steps to manage existing slopes? Will multiple constructions be required? Are you considering adding a water feature? Think about your garden as an extension to your home, and how much you would spend on a building extension. This could become a significant investment to really add value to your home. Let’s discuss at the Consultation and we can agree a budget to suit your requirements. When I present you with the Concept Design, we will further review projected fees and costs before you commit to the Detailed Design and any landscaping work.

1 Introductions

Let’s meet over the phone or via Zoom and get an idea of what you are looking for.

  • Up to 30 minutes

  • This is a conversation for you to meet me and for me to get a sense of what you are thinking about for your outside space - if you don’t know, that’s fine too! But let’s connect and see how you would like to proceed.

  • This is a free of charge first step.

2 Consultation

I will visit the outside area you are looking to re-design, get a better understanding of the space and see what is possible.

  • Typically this will be an hour of your time - but this really all depends on the size of the project. You should expect my follow up proposal to be with you within 14 days of my visit.

  • During the visit we will look at the space and further discuss ideas and the budget you would like to set. After the visit I will prepare a proposal based on our discussion and give you an overall cost estimate. We may need to bring in additional professionals for site analysis and surveys before the concept design can begin.

  • The Consultation plus follow up proposal is £250 plus travel expenses. The fee is refundable should your proceed with the Concept Design and at least one of the Detailed Design options.

3 Concept Design

Once we have agreed on your requirements and the possibilities for your space, I will draw up the design and provide you with a design package.

  • This very much depends on the size of the project but I would suggest up to 6 weeks for this to be packaged up and presented back to you.

  • The Design Package will include a top down view of the overall plan with all elements labelled, 3D drawings so you have a feel of what the garden could look like once complete; as well as mood boards to give you a feel for the space.

4 Detailed Design

This is when I get into the detail and draw up full plans in preparation for the build.

  • This is dependent on several factors, so we can discuss likely timeframes once we get to this stage.

  • Depending on your needs this could be layout plans for elements such as re-contouring, drainage, irrigation, construction drawings, planting plans; as well as detailed specification documents for the landscapers so the build will be accurate to what we agree.

5 Design Realisation

I can assist with the landscaper tendering process, as well as monitor progress if you wish - it is entirely your choice.

  • This is dependent on several factors, so we can discuss likely timeframes once we get to this stage.

  • You may wish to take the detailed design and appoint your own contractor to carry out the work, or you may want my help with the tendering process as well as monitoring through the process and dealing with the contractor on your behalf. The choice is yours. If you wish to take this part on yourself, I am very happy just to be at the end of the phone for questions - and this would then be charged on a per phone call basis.

6 After Care

I am very happy to continue to work with you as your garden develops and settles into your space.

  • I hope that we can stay connected post-build as the joy in your new space will be realised after a period of establishment. It’s likely that plants will need time to grow and settle and your space will take a little while to look it’s best - so I would be keen to set up regular reviews and provide further advice as your garden moves through the seasons.
